Telephone conversation between Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan

On July 2, 2020, a telephone conversation between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammed Haneef Atmar was held.

The parties noted the significance of regular contacts between the Heads of States and in the framework of the external policy agencies. Mr. Atmar addressed kind words to Turkmenistan in connection with the humanitarian aid provided to Afghanistan in the period of pandemic.

The main topic of discussion was the trilateral videoconference that took place earlier between the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The diplomats exchanged views on the instructions given in accordance with the results of the talks of the Heads of States and reiterated the importance of joint projects in the area of transport, energy, telecommunications, with special accent made on the transit corridor “Lapis-Lazuli” and the TAPI project.

The diplomats discussed the issues on promotion of peace process in Afghanistan, cross-border cooperation, as well as the collaboration in the framework of international structures.
