Turkmenistan took part at the second Global Sustainable Transport Conference

On October 14-16, 2021, the second Global Sustainable Transport Conference of the United National Organization is taking place in hybrid format in Beijing, China.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the Forum by means of videoconferencing by invitation of the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping.

Being a logical continuation of the first Global Sustainable Transport Conference, which was held in Ashgabat in November of 2016, the current Forum underlines the importance of the role of sustainable transport in implementation of the Agenda of Sustainable Development until 2030 and Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

“Sustainable Transport, Sustainable Development” is the theme of the High-Level Conference, the agenda of which includes the broad range of issues concerning cooperation on such strategic direction as transport.

The current Dialogue has gathered on one platform the Heads of States and Governments, the heads of the UN system, as well as OSCE, ECO, SCO, CIS, European Commission and other authoritative international organizations which activities touch all the directions of the transport sphere. In addition, this event was attended by the representatives of the private sector and civil society.

In his speech in the plenary session of the High-Level Conference, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan is strictly and consistently committed to the close and broad international cooperation in the transport sphere.

“Within the current session of the UN General Assembly we will continue to build up the efforts on strengthening the transport steadiness in the conditions of emergencies based on provisions of the UN General Assembly Resolution entitled “Strengthening the links between all modes of transport to achieve stable and reliable international transport for sustainable development during and after the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic”, which was initiated by Turkmenistan and adopted on the 29th of July of the current year”, said the head of the Turkmen state.
