Priority areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNESCAP were discussed

On January 22, 2026, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) Shombi Sharp.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and ESCAP. The Turkmen side emphasized the high level of partnership and positively assessed the results of joint work in key areas, including sustainable development, transport and energy, disaster risk reduction, as well as cooperation within the framework of SPECA.

 

Turkmenistan’s commitment to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its active participation in the activities of ECOSOC and relevant UN forums was noted. Particular attention was paid to issues of digitalization, the development of paperless trade, the introduction of the “Single Window” principle, as well as the expansion of practical cooperation with ESCAP institutions.

The Turkmen side expressed its appreciation to ESCAP for supporting the country’s international and regional initiatives, including resolutions aimed at sustainable development and addressing environmental issues, including those related to the Aral Sea basin.

At the end of the meeting, the sides reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening constructive cooperation between Turkmenistan and ESCAP in the interests of sustainable development of the region.
