Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan :Telephone conversation

On the 26th of February 2019, the telephone conversation between the Presidents of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan Republic took place.

During the conversation, the Heads of states discussed perspectives of bilateral interaction in international political arena. In addition, issues of widening trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian cooperation between the two countries were considered.

Particularly, the sides exchanged opinions on preparation for the Consultative meeting of the Heads of Central Asian states in Tashkent on the 12 April, 2019.

In this regard, the main attention has focused on the issues of water diplomacy. The Heads of states highlighted that preservation and rational use of water resources in Central Asia is one of the most important tasks facing Central Asian countries. Based on this, it was noted the necessity to intensify multilateral cooperation on water issues based on the norms and principles of international law, mutual consideration of interests of all regional states, as well as cooperation with the international organizations.

Presidents of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan in a constructive manner exchanged opinions about the further development of the partnership in the framework of International fund for Saving the Aral Sea, in which Turkmenistan is chairing.

At the same time, the Heads of States noted the significance of consolidation efforts of all interested sides on the preparation of Special Program of the UN for the states of basin of the Aral Sea and implementation of initiatives to create the Multipartner trust fund of the UN for the human security of the Aral region.

In this context, the significance of the Resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization “the Cooperation between the United Nations Organization and International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea”, adopted in April 2018, by the initiative of Turkmenistan was noted.
