On December 8, 2021, Second Ministerial Conference of the “Italy – Central Asia” format was held in Tashkent.The event, which was held in a hybrid format, was attended by the heads of the foreign policy agencies of the countries of Central Asia, Italy, as well as the representatives of the European Union. The delegation of Turkmenistan was led by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov.
During the Conference the heads of the delegations discussed the current course and prospects of cooperation on the very important issues of international and regional agenda, including the issues of politics, economics, energy, humanitarian sphere.
In his video address the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.Meredov underlined that the positions of our countries on the most important issues of world politics on many respects coincide or are similar; the existing multilateral dialogue is aimed at strengthening peace and stability, demonstrates commitment to the principles of peacefulness and trust.
Speaking about the new global challenge that all of humanity is fighting; the Minister noted that Turkmenistan fully supports coordinated actions of the world community to combat the negative consequences of the pandemic. In this context, our country put forward an initiative to create necessary conditions for a systemic interaction of medical scientists and experts, including within the framework of international organizations.
Concerning the multilateral cooperation in the sphere of ecology and protection of the environment, the head of the delegation of Turkmenistan noted that with the aim of implementation of its international obligations, our state makes practical efforts to create sustainable approach to the problem of the climate change.
In addition, within the framework of the Conference there was held a round table titled “Current state and prospects for the development of scientific cooperation between Italy and Central Asia”.
17th EU-Central Asia Ministerial Meeting – Turning Challenges into Opportunities
