On July 7, 2020, the online meeting between the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Lamberto Zannier took place in the MFA of Turkmenistan.
The main vectors of cooperation between Turkmenistan and OSCE were discussed with special accent made on the humanitarian dimension of joint activities. The adherence of the Turkmen side to the promotion of democratic values and practices, including the use of OSCE platform was underlined.
R.Meredov noted that the Government of Turkmenistan pays great attention to the matters of protection and fulfillment of the rights of all the members of society, which is reflected in the National Action Plan on Human Rights for 2016-2020. The parties discussed the issues of the national minorities and their integration into the society.
The parties considered the collaboration in view of the pandemic situation in the world. The full assistance of Turkmenistan to the set of rules issued by the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities for all OSCE participating States aimed at ensuring that the responses to the COVID-19 crisis take into account the need for all members of society, including persons belonging to national minorities, to be treated equally was expressed.
The diplomats also discussed the issues of widening cooperation in the area of education and promotion of regional multicultural dialogue.
