The foreign ministers of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan held a telephone discussion on July 28 to advance their countries’ strategic partnership and coordinate on regional initiatives.
Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov spoke with his Uzbekistan counterpart, Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, according to a statement from Uzbekistan’s Foreign Ministry.
The conversation covered bilateral cooperation opportunities, regional and international developments, and plans for upcoming diplomatic events. The ministers emphasized how regular leadership meetings between the two nations have elevated their partnership to unprecedented levels in recent years.
Current collaboration spans multiple sectors, with growing trade volumes and cargo transportation between the countries. Officials are finalizing construction of the “Shavat-Dashoguz” border trade zone, which represents a key infrastructure project linking the nations economically.
Both sides are preparing for several planned diplomatic gatherings, including upcoming sessions of their joint Intergovernmental Commission, an Interregional Forum, and their Business Council. The ministers also coordinated preparations for the seventh Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State, scheduled to take place in Tashkent this September.
