Turkmenistan and Oman discussed bilateral cooperation

The Inter-MFA consultations were held in the format of a videoconference between Turkmenistan and the Sultanate of Oman.  The Turkmen delegation was headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, while the Omani side was led by the Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi.

During the talks, a wide range of issues pertaining to Turkmen-Omani relations in political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres were discussed. The importance of contacts on the highest level for the advancement of ties between the two countries was underlined.

The Ministers emphasized the efficiency of cooperation between the external policy agencies of the two countries. Stressing the significance of continuing dialog and partnership on the platform of regional and international structures, the parties stated the closeness of standpoints in the process of maintaining peace, stability and stable economic growth.  The effective collaboration of two countries on the platforms of the UN, OIC and other reputable organizations serves as a proof of this.

Special emphasis was made on cooperation in the area of transport.  The diplomats noted that both countries have a unique geographic location and stand as vital links in the formation of international transport and transit routes on the North-South and the East-West directions. One of the vivid examples of the partnership in this regard is the Agreement on the establishment of International transport-transit corridor Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman. The parties spoke about the expediency of this partnership for strengthening cooperation between the countries and for regional economic integration.

The diplomats also stressed the importance of the development of legal basis of bilateral cooperation. The status of current drafts of documents was considered. The commitment of two countries to the establishment of joint Intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation was expressed that could help to advance the trade relations, including such areas as oil and gas, chemical and textile industries, agriculture, etc.

The parties noted the necessity of developing educational and cultural contacts taking into consideration the current circumstances. The opportunities for widening cooperation and exchange of experience in the area of healthcare and medicine were regarded.
