Turkmenistan’s national airline Turkmenistan Airlines will launch new flights from Incheon from the 14th. The route connects Incheon, Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, and Istanbul, Turkiye, and operates once a week every Monday, reported Korean agencies.
The route is attracting industry attention in that it connects to Istanbul, Turkiye via Ashgabat, a hub in Central Asia.
Ashgabat is the capital of Turkmenistan, a neutral power in Central Asia, a key city on the ancient Silk Road and an energy and infrastructure center that has recently attracted attention.
The launch is the first case of aviation cooperation since the relationship between the two countries was upgraded to a “reciprocal partnership” in the wake of the Korea-Turkmenistan summit held in June 2024.
The two countries plan to expand economic cooperation in various fields such as gas, plant, IT, transport, textile, and environment in the future, and expect to win orders for plants for Korean companies worth about $6 billion (about 8.20 trillion won).
The Istanbul route via Ashgabat is expected to provide new options for travelers, business travelers, and trade officials who want to expand air connectivity to Central Asia as well as the Middle East and Europe.
Tickets can be booked, issued, and group inquiries through the Korean Distributor of Turkmenistan Airlines (PAA).
