Novruz Celebrated in Washington, D.C. by Embassies of Turkic Nations

On April 5, 2025 — The Embassies of Turkmenistan, Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan jointly organized a festive celebration of the Novruz Holiday at the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Washington, D.C.

The event brought together officials from the U.S. Department of State, Congress, representatives of American companies, business councils, the diplomatic corps, and Turkic diasporas residing in the United States.

In his opening remarks, H.E. Meret Orazov, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the United States, congratulated all attendees on the occasion of Novruz and highlighted the rich traditions of its celebration in Turkmenistan. He noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s status of Permanent Neutrality and informed the audience of the recent adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the resolution titled “Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan”, initiated by Turkmenistan. The Ambassador also expressed gratitude to all countries that co-sponsored and supported the resolution. Additionally, it was emphasized that 2025 has been proclaimed as the International Year of Peace and Trust in accordance with UNGA Resolution.

The cultural program featured traditional music and dance performances from each participating country. Turkmenistan was represented by the “Silk Road Dance” ensemble, which performed the national dance “Kushtdepdi”, inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The celebration also included a youth art contest and concluded with a reception offering traditional cuisine from the Turkic nations, including dishes from Turkmen culinary heritage.
