On May 4, 2026, a telephone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi. During the call, they discussed bilateral relations as well as international issues of mutual interest.
In particular, the parties exchanged views on regional security issues. In this regard, they emphasized the importance of using political and diplomatic means and methods that constitute the essence of preventive diplomacy, aimed at preventing complex situations, including conflicts.
The parties also touched upon specific aspects of Caspian issues. Particular attention was drawn to the fact that the Caspian Sea is a space of peace, harmony, and good neighborliness. Simultaneously, the need to intensify multilateral cooperation to address environmental issues in the Caspian Sea was highlighted.
The heads of the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Iran noted the necessity of further developing the diplomatic dialogue between the two states and, in this connection, agreed to maintain regular contacts through their respective ministries of foreign affairs.
