Consular consultations held in Ashgabat between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan

On 2 September 2026, Turkmen-Azerbaijani consultations on consular matters were held in Ashgabat at the level of the heads of the consular services of the foreign policy agencies of two countries.

During the meeting, the sides discussed topical issues of bilateral consular cooperation, the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of citizens of the two states, as well as cooperation in the areas of migration, legal affairs and law enforcement.

Particular attention was paid to preventing cases of dual citizenship, issues related to the stay of citizens of Turkmenistan studying at higher educational institutions of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as further strengthening cooperation between the competent authorities of the two countries.

The sides also considered prospects for further developing cooperation and exchanging experience between the migration services of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Following the meeting, the sides signed the Protocol on Consular Consultations, which reflected the main outcomes of the exchange of views and the agreements reached on further developing consular cooperation.
