The first meeting of Working Group on security between Turkmenistan and the USA was held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
Opening the meeting, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V.Hajiyev noted that this meeting is the basis for the following consultations in order to determine priority directions for bilateral cooperation on security issues.
The parties discussed the regional and international issues, stressed the need to effectively counter the terrorist threats, drug trafficking and other types of illegal activities. The fight against cybercrime, measures on strengthening information security were also highlighted as important areas of cooperation.
Particular emphasis was put on peacebuilding process in Afghanistan.
V.Hajiyev stressed that Turkmenistan is interested in the political and economic stability of Afghanistan, the well-being and unity of the Afghan people. In this regard, the effectiveness of multilateral interaction formats, including “Central Asia + USA” and “Turkmenistan-USA-Afghanistan”, were highlighted.
The participants of the Working Group expressed their interest in continuing the dialogue.
