Consultations between Turkmenistan and Switzerland

On May 20, 2020, consultations were held in online format between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Switzerland. The Turkmen side was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V.Hajiev. The Swiss delegation was led by Ambassador Anna Ivkovits Horner, Director of the Department of Europe, Central Asia, Council of Europe and the OSCE of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland.

The agenda of the consultations included issues of further development of bilateral relations in the field of political contacts and cooperation within the framework of international organizations such as the UN, EU, OSCE and others.

In the course of the conversation, a constructive exchange of views took place on the issues of strengthening joint actions to counter modern challenges and threats. In particular, consolidated approaches are required in such a critical area as international transport. In this regard, Turkmenistan takes the initiative of a wide multilateral review of issues of ensuring stable and reliable international transport in emergency situations.

In addition, the need to intensify activities to expand trade and economic cooperation by creating new mechanisms of interaction was emphasized. Issues of cooperation in the field of energy and water diplomacy were also separately discussed.
