On March 20, 2022, on the eve of the national holiday Novruz in Turkmenistan, a traditional spring tree planting campaign was held at a high organizational level.

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the nationwide tree planting campaign. The leaders and representatives of the Milli Gengesh, members of the Government, heads of ministries and departments of the country, as well as residents of Turkmenistan also participated in the planting campaign.

The goal of the current planting campaign, timed to coincide with the National Spring Festival and the International Novruz Holiday, is to plant 3 million seedlings of deciduous, coniferous, and fruit trees this year throughout Turkmenistan.

Today’s tree planting campaign is carried out in accordance with the National Strategy of Turkmenistan on climate change and in order to increase the forest areas in the country.

This event is consonant with the objectives of Turkmenistan’s environmental diplomacy and is aimed at the implementation of SDG Goal 15 – “Protection, restoration of terrestrial ecosystems and promotion of their rational use, rational forest management, combating desertification, halting and reversing the process of land degradation and halting the process of biodiversity loss».Currently, the country is implementing a comprehensive program to create environmentally favorable conditions, sustainable forest management and conservation of their biodiversity. The national legislative base is being strengthened and international cooperation in this direction is expanding.
