A meeting of the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the CA countries took place in Dushanbe

On December 8, 2021, an annual meeting of the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the countries of Central Asia, organized by the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) was held in Dushanbe.

The meeting was attended by Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Asia, Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Natalia Gherman,  Director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre,  Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (Political), the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Tajikistan.

Within the framework of the meeting the Turkmen side was represented by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V.Hajiyev.

The meeting gave the participants an opportunity to exchange views concerning the issues of strengthening regional cooperation and expansion of close interaction between the states of Central Asia and UNRCCA on preservation stability and achievement of sustainable development in the region.

V.Hajiyev in his speech underlined the significance of the results of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, namely the Final Statement of the Summit. He also noted the importance of the implementation in the region of the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy of the UN and the Joint Plan of actions on countering terrorism in Central Asia. In this regard it was stated that at present the countries of the region conduct activities on the project of the renewed Joint Plan of actions for the next decade.

Besides that, all-round support of the Turkmen side to the further advancement of such dialogue platforms, initiated by the Regional Centre as the Academy for Preventive Diplomacy for the Youth and the Dialogue of the Women of the Central Asian countries was voiced.

At the end of his statement V.Hajiyev confirmed the readiness of Turkmenistan to the further development of all-round interaction in the name of strengthening security, stability and economic prosperity of the region.

The same day the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V.Hajiyev had a meeting with the Director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre Jehangir Khan.

During the meeting the parties noted the importance of perennial effective cooperation of Turkmenistan with the UN, including UN Counter-Terrorism Centre, United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism on the issues of strengthening international system of the fight against the terrorism threat and consolidation of international efforts in this direction.
