On May 15, 2025, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Romania, in cooperation with the Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiești, held an international conference titled “30 Years of Turkmenistan’s Neutrality – Contribution to Peace and Trust.” The event was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality and the declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust.
The conference brought together diplomats, scholars, and students to discuss the role of neutrality in promoting peace and sustainable development. Welcoming remarks were delivered by the Rector of the University, Professor Alin Diniță, and the State Secretary of the Romanian Ministry of Energy, Mr. Pavel Casian Nițulescu, who emphasized the importance of energy cooperation.
The keynote speech was delivered by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Romania, Mr. Annamammet Annayev. He highlighted Turkmenistan’s foreign policy priorities and underlined the importance of permanent neutrality as the foundation of peaceful diplomacy and a model of responsible international behavior. The Ambassador also recalled that Turkmenistan’s neutrality was officially recognized by the UN General Assembly in 1995 and reaffirmed by UN resolutions in 2015 and 2025. Turkmenistan remains the only country whose neutral status has received such broad international recognition.
Participants noted that Turkmenistan’s neutrality represents an active peace-oriented policy that fosters international dialogue and regional stability. Special attention was given to economic aspects, including the “Caspian Sea – Black Sea” transport corridor project.
The cultural segment featured a presentation by Turkologist Margareta Aslan on the legacy of Magtymguly Fragi. The event concluded with a video presentation and a reception featuring traditional Turkmen cuisine.
The conference underscored the strong ties between Turkmenistan and Romania and their shared commitment to the values of peace, trust, and cooperation.
