Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Georgia and Central Asia

On 23 October 2026, a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Georgia and the Central Asian countries — Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan — was held in Batumi.

During the meeting, the heads of the foreign ministries discussed topical issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the political, trade and economic, transport and energy sectors.

Particular attention was paid to the development of transport and transit corridors connecting Central Asia with the Black Sea region. The ministers highlighted the strategic importance of making effective use of the countries’ logistics infrastructure, including seaports and railway networks.

In this context, the Turkmen side put forward a number of specific proposals aimed at establishing mutually beneficial transregional cooperation between the Central Asian countries and Georgia. In particular, the need to strengthen engagement with such international organizations as the International Road Transport Union, the Organization for Cooperation between Railways and the International Maritime Organization was emphasized.

The importance of developing comprehensive measures necessary for implementing Turkmenistan’s proposals was also highlighted. In addition, as a separate area of cooperation, the Turkmen side proposed making use of Georgia’s capabilities, as well as projects of strategic importance.

Emphasizing the importance of cooperation in the telecommunications sector, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan drew attention to the project for the construction of telecommunications networks, including the laying of a fiber-optic cable along the Caspian–Black Sea corridor.

The meeting contributed to strengthening coordination among the countries on developing the region’s transit potential, improving the efficiency of existing transport routes and expanding interregional ties.

As part of the programme, familiarization visits to the Batumi Sea Port were organized for the participants, providing a practical demonstration of Georgia’s potential in maritime transport, transport infrastructure and regional logistics.
