According to reports published by Vestiabad in Turkmen, Turkish, and Russian, on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Independence and the 30th anniversary of its Permanent Neutrality, the “Makul Anglo–Turkmen Dictionary” was published in the United States and has now been released on the world–renowned platform Amazon.
The new dictionary contains 16,500 English words along with their Turkmen translations. In addition, it goes beyond a standard dictionary by including specialized terminology in fields such as law, economics, medicine, IT, artificial intelligence, and sports.
Purpose and editorial team
As noted in the Vestiabad report, the editorial team is headed by Dr. Dovran Orazgylyjov, Doctor of Law. The work is intended for a wide readership — students, translators, diplomats, specialists, as well as those engaged in international relations.
International recognition
The global expert community has given high recognition to the dictionary’s significance.
- S. Frederick Starr (Distinguished Fellow for Eurasia at the American Foreign Policy Council, Professor at Johns Hopkins University) described it as “a bridge between languages and cultures” and emphasized that it creates opportunities to further strengthen the position of the Turkmen language on the world stage.
- Eric Stewart (Executive Director of the U.S.–Turkmenistan Business Council) noted that the dictionary will contribute to developing trade and economic cooperation between the two countries and to advancing successful relations into new areas.
