Turkmenistan, with funding support from the Islamic Development Bank and the OPEC Fund for International Development, plans to expand its maritime fleet through the construction of three new vessels — two Ro-Ro rail ferries and one dry cargo ship, according to Turkmenistan’s official media.
In connection with the project, Turkmenistan’s maritime agency Turkmendenizderyayollary has announced an international tender for the design, supply and construction management of the ships.
The vessels will be built at the Balkan Shipbuilding and Repair Yard, located in Turkmenistan’s western coastal region. The initiative is aimed at increasing fleet capacity, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening the domestic shipbuilding industry.
According to the report, the project will contribute to the sustainable development of the maritime transport sector, create jobs, and support local technical expertise as part of Turkmenistan’s long-term national development strategy.
