Turkmenistan and Romania Forge Stronger Ties in UNESCO Collaboration

On March 26, 2025, in the building of the National Commission of Romania for UNESCO was held a meeting between the Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Chinar Rustemova and the Secretary General of the National Commission of Romania for UNESCO Mrs. Ligia Deca.

During the meeting, relations between the two friendly countries in the humanitarian sphere, ways of their development and strengthening were discussed.

The Turkmen side, in its speeches, introduced the activities of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, spoke about the foreign policy of Turkmenistan, which is based on the principle of neutrality, history, role and significance of the neutral status of Turkmenistan in ensuring peace and stability at the regional and international levels. At the same time, it was noted about the bilateral Turkmen-Romanian cooperation in various fields and it was proposed to establish cooperation between the Turkmen and Romanian National Commissions for UNESCO.

In turn, representatives of the Romanian side informed about the activities of the National Commission of Romania for UNESCO and the areas to which paid special attention.

During the meeting, a number of issues related to the creation and development of a network of geoparks were also discussed. In particular, it was noted that geoparks are a relevant and promising form of sustainable economic development of territories, tourism, education and scientific research, and the popularization of natural and cultural heritage.

In addition, the parties agreed to study the possibilities of intensifying bilateral contacts, including through the organization of joint events, conferences, as well as the exchange of lectures and the exchange of specialists in order to improve their qualifications in areas of interest.
