On 26 August 2025, a solemn ceremony was held at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Turkmenistan to present admission notices to Turkmen applicants for enrollment in Chinese universities under the Chinese government’s scholarship program for 2025. The event marked another significant milestone in the history of humanitarian ties between Turkmenistan and China.
The Ambassador of China to Turkmenistan, Ji Shumin, personally handed the admission notices to Turkmen students who will study at higher education institutions in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, including Xinjiang University, Xinjiang Medical University, Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics, Xinjiang Agrarian University.
The scholarship program fully covers tuition, accommodation, and other expenses, providing young people with a unique opportunity to receive a quality education in China.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Chinese Embassy, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, parents of the students, and media representatives.
In his speech, Ambassador Ji Shumin emphasized that humanitarian exchanges play a key role in Turkmen-Chinese cooperation. Students serve as bearers of friendship between our countries, as humanitarian ties are the most effective way to bring nations closer together.
The ambassador also highlighted that studying in China will allow students not only to master their chosen professions but also to learn the Chinese language and explore the country’s rich culture and attractions. This will contribute significantly to further strengthening bilateral relations, which are already successfully developing in the trade, economic, and energy sectors.
Representatives of Turkmen youth who received the scholarships also spoke at the event, expressing their gratitude.
According to the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, around 1,000 students in nine higher education institutions and approximately 5,700 schoolchildren in ten secondary schools in the country are studying the Chinese language. More than 6,500 Turkmen students are enrolled in Chinese universities, with about 250 studying under intergovernmental agreements.
