Turkmen-Indian political consultations were held in Ashgabat

On January 21, 2026, political consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and the Republic of India were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen side was led by Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova, and the Indian side was led by Secretary for Western Affairs of the Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of India Sibi George.

During the consultations, the parties discussed a wide range of issues across the entire spectrum of cooperation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, scientific, educational, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

 

The sides noted the fruitfulness of cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries and the feasibility of holding a meeting between the foreign ministers of Turkmenistan and India in the near future.

The level of interparliamentary dialogue was discussed, as well as joint work to develop the legal framework for Turkmen-Indian relations. The diplomats noted the constructive nature of the partnership of two countries within regional and international structures, primarily the UN.

As to the trade and economic ties between the two countries, the parties expressed their mutual interest in strengthening cooperation in this field, emphasizing the importance of the work of the Joint Intergovernmental Turkmen-Indian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technological Cooperation.

Furthermore, the parties discussed in detail current and prospective projects in energy, transport, agriculture, and other sectors. The importance of strengthening partnerships between the private sectors of two countries was emphasized.

During the political consultations, the parties also discussed cultural and humanitarian cooperation and joint events for the current year.
