Turkmen delegation participates in the International Atomic Energy Agency General Conference

On September 16, 2024, the visit of the Turkmen delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan M. Byashimova to Vienna of the Republic of Austria has began with the aim of participating in the 68th session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference.

As part of participation in the General Conference, the delegation met with the Deputy Director General of the IAEA, Mr. Liu Hua.

During the meeting, it was noted that cooperation with authoritative international organizations, including the IAEA, is one of the priority areas of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy.

The sides discussed cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy in such areas as medicine, agriculture, environmental protection and water resources management. In particular, the efforts of the parties in developing the Framework Program of Cooperation with the IAEA were highly appraised.

On the same day, the Turkmen delegation took part in the Opening Ceremony of the 68th session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference.

Also, on September 16, a meeting was held at the Federal Ministry for European and Foreign Affairs of Austria with the Director of the Department for the Russian Federation, Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus, Eastern Partnership, Türkiye and Central Asia, Mr. Gerhard Sailer.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the current conditions and prospects for the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Austria in political, trade-economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Special emphasis was placed on the interaction within international organizations, which is reflected in mutual support for the initiatives of the two countries, including candidacies for elective bodies of the UN and other international organizations.

The parties agreed to hold regular political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries in the first quarter of 2025.
