Tehran hosts a meeting of representatives of the ECO member countries

On May 23, 2022, the next meeting of the Brainstorming Session on the reform process and prospects for cooperation in the ECO region began at the ECO Secretariat in Tehran. The meeting is held at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers.

The delegation of Turkmenistan at the meeting is headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs V. Hajiyev.

The high-level meeting, opened by ECO Secretary General Khusrav Noziri, includes a plenary session and two working rounds.

The session is aimed at considering a number of specific issues, especially ways and means of strengthening regional cooperation in the post-pandemic period, as well as ensuring the effective implementation of the agreements reached at the ECO Summit in Ashgabat in 2021.

On the first day, issues of regional trade and interconnectedness, expansion of economic interaction between member countries were discussed. The parties also agreed that activities in the field of transit between member countries should be expanded, and tariffs should be the same and agreed between member states.

In addition, it is planned to consider issues of increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Organization, specialized agencies of the ECO, the development of a coordination mechanism for financing and implementing ECO projects.
