On February 25, 2026, a regular meeting of the Council of Permanent Representatives of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) was held in Tehran.
To increase trade turnover between ECO member countries, it is important to actively utilize cross-border and regional trade opportunities. This requires creating a favorable cross-border environment and stimulating regional cooperation through a system of agreed-upon advantages and priorities.
The meeting discussed the issue of conducting a feasibility study for the creation of joint trade zones in the ECO region, previously proposed at the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, Turkmenistan’s experience in this area was presented, in particular the significance of the joint trade zone established between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan. As a result, it was proposed to conduct a feasibility study based on the preparation of a corresponding project by the Secretariat.
This proposal was supported by the Council of Permanent Representatives of the ECO.
In this regard, the Secretariat of the Organization will begin preparing a corresponding project to implement the Turkmen side’s proposal.
