Prospects of Turkmenistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization discussed

On September 16, 2024, a meeting was held in the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Gurbanov and the delegation of the World Trade Organization (WTO) headed by Director of the Accessions Division of the WTO Maika Oshikawa.

During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues of strengthening cooperation in the context of the process of Turkmenistan’s accession to the WTO.

The interlocutors reviewed Turkmenistan’s plans to implement tasks related to preparatory measures for joining the WTO. Thus, Turkmenistan is currently carrying out active internal work to prepare a Memorandum on the Foreign Trade Regime. Along with this, the consistent work of the Interdepartmental Government Commission on studying the issues related to Turkmenistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization was noted.

At the end of the meeting, the participants exchanged views on priority issues regarding the prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the WTO.
