On 23 June, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, reviewed the progress of construction at the Shusha Mosque.
Presidential Assistant Anar Alakbarov briefed the two heads of state on the work carried out at the mosque.
It was noted that the mosque, whose foundation was laid by the President of Azerbaijan in 2021, is being built as a new modern landmark of the historic city.
Designed in the shape of the number 8 to symbolize Victory Day, the mosque will comprise the main prayer hall, an administrative building, and separate ablution facilities for men and women. Its two 73-metre minarets will symbolize the number 11, commemorating the liberation of Shusha in the eleventh month of the year.
The exterior of the mosque will be decorated with geometric ornaments inspired by those adorning the minarets of Shusha’s historic mosque. Construction of the mosque is being carried out with the support of Pasha Holding.
The new mosque is one of the key reconstruction and development projects in Azerbaijan’s territories liberated from occupation, reflecting the revival of Karabakh and the Azerbaijani people’s commitment to their national and spiritual values.
