President of Turkmenistan Meets with UN Secretary-General António Guterres

As previously reported, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow is on a working visit to the United States to participate in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

While on a working visit to the U.S., President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the UN Headquarters in New York City.

The Head of State warmly congratulated the Secretary-General on the successful start of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly and expressed confidence that the Assembly’s work would make a significant contribution to strengthening global peace and security, as well as advancing sustainable development programs.

President of Turkmenistan mentioned that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, one of the world’s most prestigious organizations. In honor of this momentous occasion, he extended his heartfelt congratulations to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and all the staff of the UN’s specialized agencies.

President of Turkmenistan took the opportunity to convey the warm greetings of the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan to the UN Secretary-General.

The UN Secretary-General expressed his greetings and best wishes to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, stating that he views this meeting as a continuation of Turkmenistan’s important cooperation with the United Nations on key issues. He also highlighted the country’s contribution to finding positive solutions to regional and global problems.

President of Turkmenistan reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to further developing its multifaceted cooperation with the United Nations. As a neutral state recognized by the UN three times, Turkmenistan pursues an active policy in the international arena.

A clear example of this is the successful Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which was held in the “Awaza” National Tourist Zone.

President of Turkmenistan announced that at Turkmenistan’s initiative, the United Nations had declared 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust, noting that this event coincides with the glorious 30th anniversary of our country’s permanent neutrality. In this regard, he invited the UN Secretary-General to participate in the international forum to be held in Ashgabat on December 12 of this year.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his gratitude for the invitation, emphasizing the important role of neutral Turkmenistan, with its rich history and unique cultural heritage, in promoting peace principles in Central Asia and globally.
