On Monday, 14 September 2026, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, paid a working visit to Arkadag City to review the progress of construction under its second phase, the state news agency TDH reports.
The first stop on the visit was the ‘Arkadagyň ruhy metjidi’ mosque, where the National Leader reviewed designs and site plans for facilities scheduled to be built or upgraded as part of the second phase of the city’s development.
The presented plans included the modernization of a school specializing in foreign languages, as well as designs for a kindergarten and a sports complex, including proposed finishing and interior options.
After reviewing the documentation, Berdimuhamedov made a number of recommendations. In particular, while discussing the kindergarten’s interior design, he stressed the importance of incorporating images of flora and fauna to broaden children’s knowledge and understanding of the natural world.
Speaking about the school, he emphasized the need to bring educational programmes into line with modern requirements while drawing on the traditions of national pedagogy.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov then held a working meeting with D. Orazov, Chairman of the State Committee for the Construction of Arkadag City, and G. Mammedova, Mayor of Arkadag.
During the meeting, Orazov reported on measures being taken to ensure construction quality and meet deadlines for commissioning the facilities. It was also reported that the potential of Arkadag’s medical cluster had been presented at an International Economic Forum in the Republic of Korea as part of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s state visit.
Mayor G. Mammedova briefed the meeting on preparations for celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence, with the planned relocation of residents to new apartment buildings timed to coincide with the national anniversary.
The meeting also addressed the city’s sports infrastructure. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said the current condition of the stadium where FC Arkadag trains does not meet established requirements.
The National Leader criticized what he described as weak coordination between the city’s Department of Physical Culture and Sports, the stadium management and the mayor’s office. He warned that strict measures could be taken against those responsible if the facility is not properly maintained.
The final stop of the visit was the construction site of the ‘Arkadagyň ruhy metjidi’ mosque, which is designed to accommodate 30,000 people. Y. Khojagulyyev, the mosque’s chief imam, presented preliminary designs for classrooms at the madrasa being built nearby and reported on the study of international experience in constructing similar educational institutions.
Berdimuhamedov said the madrasa under construction was being designed to meet the standards of an institution of higher education. He recommended taking into account leading international practices and generally accepted standards in equipping classrooms and organizing the educational process.
