On June 30, 2020, an online meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V.Khadzhiev and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway to Turkmenistan (with residence in Oslo) Ole Johan Bernoy and the Special Representative of the Norway for Afghanistan, Per Albert Ilsaas.
During the meeting, diplomats noted the commitment of the two countries to the further development of Turkmen-Norwegian ties in the political, trade-economic, cultural and humanitarian fields. The parties exchanged views on enhancing high-level contacts.
Confirming the similarity of positions regarding the regional and international agenda, the parties discussed the main areas of cooperation within the framework of international structures, in particular the UN. In this context, the importance of holding timely political consultations and maintaining contacts between the foreign affairs agencies of the two countries was noted. The positions of the two countries in the framework of countering the coronavirus pandemic were presented.
Particular emphasis was placed on the contribution of neutral Turkmenistan, which for many years has been supporting processes to maintain peace and security in the entire Central Asian region. In this context, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan informed the Norwegian diplomats about Turkmenistan’s state policy and foreign policy initiatives to establish peace and stability in Afghanistan, to create the necessary conditions for the successful socio-economic development of this country.
The parties considered the possibilities of developing trade and economic relations and establishing contacts between the business circles of the two countries.
Issues of developing cooperation in the fields of education, healthcare, science and culture were also discussed.
