Turkmenistan’s Path to Neutrality: 30 Years of Commitment to Peace and Stability

On September 17, 2025, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Romania held an international conference, “Turkmenistan’s Path to Neutrality: 30 Years of Commitment to Peace and Stability,” at the Politehnica National University of Science and Technology (Bucharest).

The event commemorated the 30th anniversary of the declaration of permanent neutrality, the 34th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence, and the declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust, initiated by our country.

Diplomats, representatives of Romanian government agencies, academics, and students, attended the conference.

Participants emphasized the relevance of neutrality in today’s world and its role in strengthening peace, stability, and sustainable development.

Professor Mihnea Costoiu, Rector of the University, delivered a welcoming speech, noting the importance of Turkmenistan’s neutrality and its peace-loving policy. The keynote address was delivered by Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Romania, A.Annayev, who emphasized that neutrality is the cornerstone of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy and has been reaffirmed three times by the UN General Assembly.

Particular attention was paid to the development of Turkmen-Romanian relations, including the Caspian Sea-Black Sea transport corridor project, as well as prospects for cooperation in energy, digital technology, and the environment.

The conference concluded with a cultural program—an exhibition and tasting of national dishes—allowing guests to gain a closer understanding of the rich heritage of the Turkmen people.
