From Business to Culture: Turkmenistan and Slovenia Expand Cooperation

On the sidelines of the Bled Strategic Forum in Slovenia, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myakhri Byashimova held a meeting with Dr. Melita Gabrič, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia for Multilateral Cooperation, Political Affairs, and Development.

The Turkmen side expressed gratitude for the high level of organization of the 20th anniversary Bled Strategic Forum, which has become a respected platform for discussing key issues on the global and regional agenda. It was emphasized that Turkmenistan and Slovenia possess significant potential for expanding cooperation across various fields.

The parties noted the successful holding of political consultations between their foreign ministries in Ashgabat and confirmed their readiness to continue this format in 2026 in Ljubljana. Additionally, it was proposed to broaden the scope of interaction by organizing business events and forums alongside political consultations, involving the business communities of both countries. Promising areas for cooperation include the chemical and energy sectors, pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, sports, agriculture, and technology.

Particular attention was given to high-level contacts, with both sides expressing readiness to organize meetings between the leaders of the two countries at the earliest opportunity. It was noted that Turkmenistan consistently advocates for peaceful dialogue and the promotion of international initiatives in this area.

The Turkmen side thanked Slovenia for supporting its initiatives on international platforms, highlighting that Slovenia co-authored nine resolutions proposed by Turkmenistan at the United Nations.

The sides also acknowledged the participation of Slovenia’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan, accredited from Moscow, in the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), held in August in Avaza. The high level of organization and the significance of this conference for countries facing transport and logistical challenges were highly appreciated.

Cultural cooperation was discussed separately. The Slovenian side shared plans to hold screenings of Slovenian films in Turkmenistan, which will contribute to strengthening humanitarian ties and mutual understanding between the peoples of both nations.

The parties also emphasized the need to further strengthen the legal framework for bilateral relations and expressed readiness to sign relevant documents to facilitate the progressive development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Slovenia.
