Baku hosts Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan 8th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission

Discussions were held at the 8th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission with Turkmenistan on cooperation in trade, energy, transport, industry, business, agriculture and other areas, as well as opportunities for promoting mutual investments. Turkmenistan participated in this meeting by the head of delegation Co-chair of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Nokerguli Atagulyyev.

The 8th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on cooperation in the economic and humanitarian spheres between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan was held in Baku.

At the meeting, Co-Chairman of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov emphasized that relations between the two countries are based on a solid historical foundation, cultural proximity and mutual respect of the two fraternal peoples. It was noted that a high level of trust and mutual understanding between our heads of state is of particular importance in strengthening cooperation. Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are implementing important joint projects and initiatives. There is a broad partnership agenda between our countries, covering key areas such as economy, trade, energy, transport and humanitarian relations.

The potential for strengthening investment cooperation with Turkmenistan was noted. It was noted that 75 companies with Turkmen capital operate in Azerbaijan in the fields of industry, transport, construction, trade and services.

Our countries have great potential in terms of expanding cooperation in energy. Azerbaijan, which has a developed infrastructure for energy exports, is ready to discuss mutually beneficial cooperation mechanisms.

Cooperation with Turkmenistan on the revival of the “East-West” transport corridor and increasing the efficiency of the Middle Corridor also plays a special role. The volume of transit transportation between our countries has been demonstrating stable dynamics in recent years. According to the results of last year, this indicator exceeded 2 million tons, and in the first half of this year it exceeded 1 million tons.

The opportunities for strengthening the partnership of the two countries in trade, energy, industrial parks, transport, business, agriculture and the Alat free economic zone were brought to attention.

The meeting provided information on Azerbaijan’s growing economic indicators, favorable business and investment environment, transport and logistics infrastructure opportunities, and the prospects of the Zangezur corridor, the importance of expanding ties between business circles was emphasized, and Turkmen investors were invited to active cooperation.

Co-chair of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Nokerguli Atagulyyev emphasized that there are broad prospects for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation with Azerbaijan in various fields, and shared his views on the directions of partnership development.

The event discussed the prospects for joint activities in various fields and initiatives serving common interests in the economic sphere.

At the end of the meeting, a protocol was signed on the results of the 8th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission. The document was signed by the co-chairs of the Commission – Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Nokerguli Atagulyyev. The document envisages expanding partnership in economic and trade, energy, transport, agriculture and other areas.
