THE GREEN COMMUNITY OF MARY COMES TOGETHER FOR U.S.-TURKMEN ECO-FESTIVAL

On April 28, Bagtyyarlyk Park in Mary was filled with visitors to an eco-festival organized jointly by the U.S. Embassy and the Hakimlik of Mary Velayat.  Approximately 1,500 people visited booths set up by local partners on the theme of environmental protection, including exhibits, games and hands-on activities.  Local partners included the American Corner of Mary, the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan, the Mary Velayat Branch of the Society for the Protection of Nature of Turkmenistan, the Badhyz State Nature Reserve, local cultural and education centers, and others.

Ambassador Klimow arrived in Mary to open the event together with Deputy Hyakim of Mary Velayat.  “The stations that have been set up around the festival grounds provide ideas for recycling, upcycling, identifying eco-friendly products,” said Ambassador Klimow, highlighting the participation of local counterparts.  “The festival is a reminder that we each have a role to play in protecting our environment “.

The festival continues a series of environmental events organized by the U.S. Embassy in partnership with the Government of Turkmenistan, and reinforces the U.S. commitment to bilateral and multilateral climate cooperation.
