A meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the Regional Director of the United Nations Development Сoordination Office

On September 14, 2022, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with the Regional Director of the United Nations Development Coordination Office (UNDCO) for Europe and Central Asia, Ms. Gwi-Yeop Son.

During the meeting, the parties highly evaluated the cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations in a wide range of areas. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of combining efforts in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the national sustainable development goals in Turkmenistan.

Rashid Meredov also noted that Turkmenistan supports the holding of the Education Transformation Summit in September 2022 in New York during the high-level week of the seventy-seventh session of the UN General Assembly. It was highlighted that Turkmenistan has been conducting the work to improve the national education system and ensure equal access to quality education and plans to start national consultations in the near future in frames of preparation for this Summit.

The diplomats reviewed current and prospective projects and talked about key areas of cooperation. The significance of the initiatives proposed by Turkmenistan under the leadership of the head of state in the field of energy, transport, ecology, health care and others, which were embodied in a number of resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly, was especially emphasized.

The parties discussed areas of cooperation and exchanged views on developing the potential for interaction with the UN, in particular, on holding an international conference on healthcare.

During the meeting, the Turkmen side proposed to expand cooperation with the UN in the field of social services.

The parties agreed to continue active cooperation towards achieving these goals.
