On the significant role of inter-parliamentary relations in ensuring peace, stability and sustainable development

As already reported, on the initiative of the the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the countries of Central Asia and the Russian Federation started in Ashgabat, in which the heads of the highest legislative bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation take part.

In the afternoon, the Inter-Parliamentary Forum continued its work in the format of plenary sessions in three areas: “Legislative body of state power: modern experience and cooperation”, “Medical diplomacy: exchange of experience is a reliable way forward”, “Regional cooperation for the sake of environmental well-being and sustainable development”.

Emphasizing the great importance of parliamentary diplomacy, designed to promote the strengthening of friendship and cooperation between countries and peoples, the Forum participants noted the growing role of inter-parliamentary relations to strengthen equality and pluralism in addressing the global challenges of our time both on a regional and global scale.

The importance of using the tools of parliamentary diplomacy as an important mechanism for promoting a constructive international dialogue in order to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic, ensure people’s health and restore the global economy was stated. The need to develop regional cooperation for the sake of environmental well-being and sustainable development was also noted.

The forum participants emphasized the importance of the Global Initiative of Turkmenistan “Dialogue is a Guarantee of Peace”, aimed at restoring and establishing a culture of peace, dialogue and trust in international relations.
