The AEIF competition

The U.S. Embassy Ashgabat and the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ (ECA) Office of Alumni Affairs is pleased to announce the 2021 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF).

The AEIF competition supports exchange alumni initiatives that promote shared values and innovative solutions to global challenges.  AEIF 2021 increases the impact of the investment in U.S. government-funded and facilitated exchange programs (i.e., Fulbright, Humphrey, TEA, TechWomen, Community Connections, FLEX, MUSKIE, UGRAD, SUSI and others) by supporting public service projects designed and led by alumni of exchange programs.

AEIF 2021 will accept public service projects that support following subjects:

  • Climate change
  • Disinformation, media literacy
  • Economic Empowerment initiatives
  • English Language
  • Professional Development

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Teams must include alumni of U.S. government funded-sponsored exchange programs such as FLEX/Fulbright/TEA/TechWomen/Community Connections/IVLP/Humphrey/UGRAD/SUSI/MUSKIE. Please consult with the Embassy Ashgabat Alumni Coordinator if you have questions.
  2. Alumni must use only the official AEIF proposal and budget form (attached to this e-mail) to submit their projects to the Embassy.
  3. All project activities must take place in Turkmenistan.
  4. Projects may include alumni from different exchange programs and different countries.

FORMAT AND TIMELINE

The project proposal must include the involvement of at least two alumni.  Proposals may request from $10,000 up to $50,000.  Deadline to submit your proposal and budget is June 20, 2021.

Each alumni team may submit one proposal and budget to AshgabatAlumni@state.gov

Proposals submitted within the deadline will be reviewed by the Embassy Public Affairs Office and recommend to ECA for funding.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  According to Turkmenistan regulations, only registered public organizations (NGOs) that have been re-registered with the Ministry of Justice or the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan are eligible to receive any foreign financial assistance in Turkmenistan.  If alumni are not part of a registered NGO, the Embassy encourages them to register and implement their project in partnership with an NGO.
