Events dedicated to significant dates were held in Italy with the participation of a scientific delegation from Turkmenistan

On 25 November 2025, at Palazzo Valentini, with the support of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Italian Republic and in cooperation with the Italian Institute for Asia (ISIA), the Turkmen delegation headed by the President of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, A.Ashirov, took part in a conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent Neutrality and the 34th anniversary of Independence, as well as to the proclamation of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust at the initiative of Turkmenistan.

The conference also featured the presentation of a collection of selected poems by the great poet of the Turkmen people, Magtymguly Fragi, translated into Italian.

The event was attended by diplomats, representatives of government institutions and scholarly circles of Italy. Speeches were delivered by the President of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan A.Ashirov, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Italy T.Komekov, the Deputy Director of the Magtymguly Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts H.Durdyyev, as well as, on the Italian side, the President of ISIA M. Morgoni, the Secretary-General of ISIA D.Palmieri, the Councillor of the Capitoline Assembly F. Santori and the Member of Parliament for Culture, Science and Education I.Manzi.

In their speeches, the participants highlighted Turkmenistan’s neutral status, which for three decades has served as a solid foundation for both the country’s domestic and foreign policy.

They also underlined the peaceful international initiatives of Turkmenistan aimed at promoting peace, trust and sustainable development, initiated by the National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

Attention was also drawn to the significance of the International Forum to be held on 12 December 2025 in Ashgabat on the occasion of the International Year of Peace and Trust, the International Day of Neutrality and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent Neutrality.

Special emphasis was placed on the literary legacy of the poet Magtymguly Fragi. Speakers stressed that the publication of Magtymguly Fragi’s works in Italian is an important indicator of successful humanitarian cooperation between the two countries and provides an opportunity for a wider readership to become acquainted with the poet’s works. The collection includes 130 poems translated by Italian oriental scholars with the consultative support of their colleagues from the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan.

On the same day, bilateral meetings were held with the Head of the Cultural Heritage Department of the city of Rome, Claudio Parisi Presicce, the Senator of the Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Heritage of the Senate of the Republic, Francesco Verducci, as well as the First Deputy Minister for Science and Innovation of the Ministry of Universities and Research of Italy, Dr.Gianluigi Consoli.

During the meetings, the sides discussed further steps to strengthen bilateral cooperation within international organizations and to deepen relations in the political-diplomatic, scientific-cultural, and trade-economic spheres. The sides also exchanged views on the development of cooperation in the areas where agreements were reached between the Heads of the two countries during the official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the Italian Republic in October of this year.

A day earlier, as part of the visit to the Italian Republic, the Turkmen delegation visited the city of Acquasparta, where they were warmly welcomed by the Mayor, Giovanni Montani.

The delegation visited Palazzo Cesi, associated with the early development of one of the first scientific academies in Europe, and familiarized themselves with one of Italy’s leading cultural and scientific centers.

During the meeting, the President of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, A.Ashirov, spoke about Turkmenistan’s foreign policy, which is based on the principles of positive neutrality, peace, and mutually beneficial cooperation with all interested international partners.

The sides also discussed the development of bilateral relations. Mayor Giovanni Montani invited the Turkmen side to the annual conference with the participation of mathematicians and physicists from around the world. In response, the President of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, A.Ashirov, invited the Mayor to take part in the annual international conference dedicated to Turkmenistan’s Science Day.

At the end of the meeting, the sides confirmed their intention to maintain an active dialogue to further develop and strengthen bilateral relations between Turkmenistan and the Italian Republic.
