Turkmenistan’s ambitious goal on a reducing greenhouse gas emissions

a Senior officials meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan at the level of deputy ministers of relevant national entities to discuss the draft document of the Nationally Determined Contributions of Turkmenistan (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement for the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The meeting was also attended by representatives of international organizations, in particular the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the World Health Organization (WHO), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

During the meeting, the main provisions of the NDC document were presented. It should be noted that the document also contains an Action Plan for the implementation of the Paris Agreement requirements on the national level, prepared in accordance with the National Strategy of Turkmenistan on Climate Change, and including the rationale, goals, obligations, responsible organizations and timeframes for the implementation of practical activities.

National commitments indicated in the NDCs are a confirmation of Turkmenistan’s ambitious goal of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

In Turkmenistan, environmental issues are one of the priority areas of state policy, and the Government actively supports the Paris Agreement, which was ratified by Turkmenistan in October 2016.
