Turkmenistan and Japan broaden the trade-economic cooperation

On May 23, 2019, the 13th Session of Turkmen-Japanese and Japanese-Turkmen Committees on Economic Cooperation was held chaired by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.Meredov from the Turkmen side and the Vice-president of “Itochu Corporation” Yoichi Kobayashi from the Japanese side.

A respectable delegation of Japan consisting of more than 80 members, including the representatives of the Government of Japan, major Japanese companies, among which Mitsubishi, Kavasaki, Itochu and Sumitomo attended the session.  The heads and representative of relevant ministries and organizations of Turkmenistan participated to the meeting.  

During the session, the parties thoroughly discussed the key aspects of bilateral ties, particularly the trade and economic cooperation.  They noted that mutual visits on high level during the past 10 years became a vital link in strengthening the Turkmen-Japanese relations.           

The parties regarded the current and planned projects implemented on the territory of Turkmenistan in participation of leading Japanese companies.  It was underlined that good prerequisites exist for further widening of cooperation in such areas as transport, gas and chemical industry, electro-energy, agriculture, healthcare, communications, tourism and ecology.  Also it was noted that in view of transfer to digital systems of economy on the national level, the parties aim to intensify the collaboration in the area of high technologies.    

In the framework of the session, six documents were signed between the leading concerns of Turkmenistan and Japanese companies in such spheres as chemical and gas industry, transport, agriculture and water management.    

Upon completion of the meeting, the Joint Protocol on the 13th Session of Turkmen-Japanese and Japanese-Turkmen Committees on Economic Cooperation was signed.
