Tokio-2020: first Olympic medal of Turkmenistan

Today, Turkmenistan won the first Olympic medal at the ongoing Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. Our weightlifter Polina Guryeva won the first Olympic medal in the history of Turkmenistan. This was reported by the world media.

The Turkmen athlete won a silver medal in the weight category up to 59 kg, behind her idol, Taiwan’s Kuo Hsing-Chun, who broke Olympic records in all three of the event’s categories.

Guryeva excelled in both the snatch and clean and jerk. She lifted 96kg during the snatch, which tied for second among all the competitors in that group. Guryeva needed two tries to lift 96kg. She failed in her first attempt at that weight, but pulled it off the second time around.

Guryeva set herself apart in the clean and jerk, where she managed to lift 121kg. That figure was also second best among competitors.
