Summit of the Heads of States Council of the CIS held in Ashgabat

The Summit of the Heads of States Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Ashgabat on October 11, 2019.

The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan I.Aliyev, the Prime-minister of the Republic of Armenia N.Pashinyan, the President of the Republic of Belarus A.Lukashenko, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.Tokayev, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic S.Jeenbekov, the President of the Republic of Moldova I.Dodon, the President of the Russian Federation V.Putin, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan E.Rahmon, the President of Turkmenistan G.Berdimuhamedov, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh.Mirziyoyev, as well as the Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee – Executive Secretary S.Lebedev participated in the Summit.

The Summit of the Heads of States Council started with the talks in narrow format.  During the meeting, the participants exchanged views on cooperation on the CIS space and highly appraised the unfolding of joint activities aimed at the attainment of higher levels of multilateral collaboration. Having underlined the success of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship in the CIS in current year, the parties spoke about the chairmanship in the Commonwealth in 2020. 

Then the meeting in enlarged format took place. During the meeting, the participants considered the issues of political, economic and humanitarian nature.  The issues related to the preparation of events on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of Victory in 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War were specially viewed. 

Also, the parties discussed the trade-economic and legal basis of cooperation, technical military collaboration, as well as the actions on maintaining stability and security not only on the CIS space, but also in the whole world.  The participants of the session stressed the significance of cooperation with international organizations and regional alliances for the attainment of effective results.   

In the framework of the Session, the award ceremony took place, during which the President of Turkmenistan was honored with the Medal of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS states-participants “In recognition of his achievements in the development of humanitarian cooperation.”  The Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee – Executive Secretary S.Lebedev was awarded with the state award of Turkmenistan – the “Bitaraplyk” (Neutrality) Order. 

Upon the outcome of the Session, the parties signed the resolutions “On the Chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2020,” and “On holding the next Summit of the Heads of States Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States,” as well as adopted the “Declaration on the Strategic Economic Cooperation of the CIS states-participants” and “the Address of the Heads of States of the Commonwealth of Independent States participating countries to the People of the Nations of the Commonwealth and World Community on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of  the Soviet People’s Victory in 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War.”

Then the Press conference on the results of the Summit of the Heads of States Council of the CIS was held, during which the success of current Session, concurrence of views on key aspects of international agenda and high organizational level of the meeting were noted.
