Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, during a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan said that the practical work on the TAPI project would soon commence.
Muttaqi and Rashid Meredov, the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, visited the TAPI gas pipeline at the border between the two countries.
Several officials from both countries also attended this visit at the Torghundi port in Herat, which lies at the border between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.
Amir Khan Muttaqi said: “The area where the TAPI project is set to begin and where the inauguration ceremony will be held was visited. Additionally, a decision regarding the opening of the Noor Jihad power plant in Herat province will be made in the near future, and the extension of the road to Herat province will also be decided upon.”
The Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan pledged that his country is committed to the start of the TAPI project, the expansion of the Torghundi railway, and the operation of the Noor Jihad power plant in Herat city.
During this meeting, Rashid Meredov said: “The Torghundi railway station and the Torghundi-Herat railway route were evaluated. A port is set to be constructed along this railway.”
Preparations for the ceremony marking the commencement of the TAPI project at the Afghanistan-Turkmenistan border are underway.
“The work underway at this location is to prepare the site for the inauguration ceremony of the TAPI project. The work will be completed by the time set for the inauguration of this project,” Nazifullah Alokozay, an engineer of the TAPI project, said.
Earlier, Afghan and Turkmenistan officials have held several meetings and discussions regarding the commencement of the practical work on the TAPI project, the expansion of the Noor Jihad power plant in Herat city, the expansion of the Torghundi railway, and the TAP project.
