Online meeting between Central Asia and European Union

On June 12, 2020, an online meeting between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Central Asian countries and the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Mr. Josep Borrell Fontelles was held. During the meeting, the issues related to the consolidation of efforts aimed at resisting the spread of new type of coronavirus infection were discussed.

The parties also considered the current state of affairs and future of cooperation between the European Union and the countries of the region in the context of implementing the EU Strategy for Central Asia.

The priority positions of Turkmenistan were set forth on all of the above mentioned issues and a number of regional and international initiatives that are promoted by the Turkmen side on the platforms of the United Nations, World Health Organization and other multilateral formats were emphasized.

The parties also discussed the subjects on maintaining peace and security in the region, particularly touching upon further practical steps on the establishment of stability in Afghanistan.
