On February 3, 2025, the delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs A. Gurbanov took part in the First Meeting of the High Level Committee of the ECO Deputy Foreign Ministers held in Tehran.
The meeting was attended by deputy foreign ministers of the ECO Member States, heads of regional organizations, as well as specialized agencies, regional institutions and structural subdivisions of the ECO.
The agenda of the meeting included the issues of further development of financial and budgetary cooperation within the framework of ECO, as well as consideration of the implementation of the goals of the “ECO Vision 2025” and the possibility of improving the working mechanisms of this multilateral structure.
In his speech, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan A. Gurbanov emphasized that Turkmenistan, being a responsible member of the international community, stays committed to strengthening regional cooperation within the ECO framework. In this regard, the position of Turkmenistan on priority areas of cooperation within the ECO framework, as well as the country’s proposals on the ECO development strategy were voiced.
In particular, A.Gurbanov drew the attention of the participants to the initiatives of Turkmenistan to develop the Global Atlas of Sustainable Transport Connectivity, the Alliance for Cooperation on Global Energy Security and Sustainable Development, the transition to circular economy, which became one of the key initiatives of Turkmenistan on the international platforms in 2024.
At the same time, the importance of effective implementation of the ECO Trade Agreement, which is an important tool for deepening regional integration, promoting cooperation in the field of tourism, strengthening human capital and institutional capacity, was emphasized.
It should be noted that on the margins of the First Meeting of the High Level Committee of the ECO Deputy Foreign Ministers, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan A. Gurbanov had a short meeting with ECO Secretary General Asad Majeed Khan.
During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the current state and prospects of multifaceted cooperation between Turkmenistan and ECO.
