Afghanistan and Turkmenistan Discuss Accelerating Land Acquisition for TAPI Project

The Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, Attaullah Omari, met with the CEO of TAPI Pipeline Company Limited, Muhammetmyrat Amanov, and the Ambassador of Turkmenistan, Hoja Ovezov, to discuss the land acquisition process along the route of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline in Afghanistan.

During the meeting, Amanov provided an update on the implementation of the TAPI project and urged the Afghan side to accelerate the land acquisition process, according to the Afghan ministry.

For his part, Minister Omari assured the project leadership that lease costs and land compensation would be determined in accordance with the country’s effective regulations and laws.

According to him, work is currently underway on the valuation of land plots to ensure fair rates for private, personal, and state-owned properties.

A significant portion of the pipeline route passes through Afghan territory, with the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock playing a coordinating technical role in the assessment, verification, and acquisition of land for the construction of the gas highway.

Last week, the Turkmen delegation also met in Kabul with Afghanistan’s Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Hidayatullah Badri. During that meeting, Badri reaffirmed the commitment to the project’s implementation and the creation of the necessary conditions to advance the construction of the pipeline on Afghan territory.
