A video conference with University College of London

On April 28, 2020, a video conference was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, in which Professor of the Institute of Archeology of the University College of London, Chief Counsel of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Tim Williams delivered a lecture via live video.

The theme of the online lesson, with the participation of students from the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the International University for the Humanities and Development, was “UNESCO: The Silk Road and the Important Role of Ancient Merv”.

It is known that the Complex of the Historical and Cultural Monuments of Ancient Merv was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999 as a historical and cultural heritage of great importance throughout the world.

During the lecture, the famous archaeologist presented concrete evidences on the causes of Merv’s inclusion in this prestigious list, its peculiarities, development in the fields of science, education, art and culture as a unique civilization.

This gave the students ample opportunity to increase their knowledge of the worthy contribution of the Complex of the Historical and Cultural Monuments of Ancient Merv located in the country to the development of world civilization.
