Prospects for Turkmen-Georgian Economic Cooperation Discussed in Ashgabat

On May 7, 2026, the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Georgian Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Ashgabat.

The Turkmen side was headed by the Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations of Turkmenistan Nazar Agahanov, while the Georgian side was led by the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Mariam Kvrivishvili. The meeting was attended by the leadership of relevant ministries and agencies from two countries.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects for developing bilateral cooperation in trade-economic sphere, and reaffirmed their mutual commitment to further deepening their partnership on a wide range of areas.

Particular attention was paid to intensifying trade and economic ties, where transport, energy, as well as the oil and gas sectors were identified among the priority areas. Other vectors discussed included increasing mutual trade turnover, stimulating investment activity, and creating favorable conditions for interaction between the business communities of the two countries.

The strategic importance during the discussions had the theme of transport and logistics, particularly the development of the “Caspian Sea – Black Sea” and “Lapis – Lazuli” international corridors, as well as the efficient engagement of port infrastructure transit potential.

Along with the economic sector, the participants emphasized the importance of expanding humanitarian dialogue by strengthening contacts in science, education, tourism, and culture.

After completing the work of the Commission, the Co-chairs signed the final protocol, reinforcing the agreements reached and outlining specific steps for the implementation of promising joint projects for the benefit of the peoples of Turkmenistan and Georgia.

During the visit of the delegation of Georgia to Ashgabat, meetings were held between the leadership of relevant ministries and agencies of Turkmenistan and Georgia.
