Turkmenistan participated in the 13th Meeting of ECO Ministers of Transport

On June 2, 2025, in Tehran, Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammethan Chakiyev took part in the 13th Meeting of the Ministers of Transport of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
The event was attended by the Minister of Roads and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic of Iran Farzaneh Sadegh, Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan Makhkamov Ilhom Rustamovich, Minister of Communications of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Abdul Alim Khan, Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) Umberto de Pretto, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Asad Majid Khan.

During the meeting, the main attention was paid to the development of an efficient and sustainable transport system in the ECO region, improving logistics links between the East and the West, expanding multimodal routes, as well as introducing digital solutions in the transport industry.
The participants considered the prospects for modernizing international transport corridors, automating border procedures, increasing the capacity of logistics hubs and introducing innovative technologies. The importance of cooperation within the ECO as a key tool for strengthening regional connectivity and international transit was emphasized.


Turkmenistan reaffirmed its commitment to developing mutually beneficial partnership in the transport sector, emphasizing its strategic role as a transit country between Europe and Asia.
A number of bilateral meetings were held during the meeting. Following the meeting with the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the parties discussed the development of transport and logistics infrastructure, expanding cargo transportation volumes, modernizing border points and prospects for new joint routes.
The issues of strengthening partnership in the field of transport, developing new logistics areas and digitalizing transportation were discussed with the Minister of Communications of Pakistan.

The issues of training professional drivers and logistics managers, as well as strengthening cooperation in the automotive sector, were discussed during the talks with the IRU Secretary General.

A meeting was also held with the ECO Secretary General, during which key areas of development of the transport sector, increasing regional connectivity and promoting international transit were discussed. In addition, the issue of preparation for the 3rd Global Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC), which is scheduled to be held on 3-5 August 2025 in Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan, was touched upon. An extended meeting of the ECO is also expected to be held as part of this event.
